I’m excited to share our outdoor shower today! Taking outdoor showers on Nantucket is one of my favorite parts of summer and I’ve dreamed of building one in our Connecticut backyard since we first bought this house and renovated the pool. I can’t wait to use it for many years to come and I hope it becomes part of our boys’ favorite childhood memories too!
My dad built the enclosure using this kit from Cape Cod Shower Kits. This is their standard house mount in white PVC, which we decided would be the best low-maintenance option for us long-term (and I like that the white blends in with our newly white exterior!). We opted for the extra posts against the house for additional stability (and I just prefer the more finished look) and it took my dad about six hours one weekend to put it together.
I ordered the showerhead from Amazon (the water pressure is so good) and hired a plumber to hook up the outdoor plumbing (we’d asked our contractor to add hot and cold water lines to the exterior when we renovated our kitchen and powder room on the other side of this wall a few years back). I did go through our local town hall to request approval to put in the shower but ultimately didn’t need a planning and zoning permit given the height of the enclosure and the distance from our lot line. My understanding is these regulations will vary by town and lot size so definitely check with your own town hall before ordering!
